"Movement that Matters" -- "Don't Just Sit There"
Senior Aerobics provides a safe and fun exercise program while sitting in a chair. The program is designed to provide a safe environment for the development and maintenance of the physical and mental strength of senior adults.
- AEROBICS: Arm and foot patterns such as marching and "dancing moves" for coordination and concentration skills are done to "oldies" tunes to provide a light aerobic workout for the heart.
- TONING & STRENGTH: Developing and increasing muscle strength is the focus to insure ease of everyday activities. Weight work using light to medium weight is done while seated to provide support for the back while toning the upper body muscles. Lower body strenghtening is done with Dynabands for resistance.
- ABDOMINAL WORK: Done using a 10" play ball placed behine the back against the chair for support. The ball is also used for leg and arm work and just for fun.
- STRETCHING after "chair aerobics" and toning of each muscle group helps increase flexibility and range of motion. A quiet time with relaxing musci and thoughts end each lcass.
Class members are of similar age, backgrounds, needs and desires. There is no competition and there is an abundance of encouragement and frienship.
The program provides fun and fitness, enabling each member to become the very best he or she can be...Firm, Strong, Flexible.
Classes meet at James Island Baptist Church on Monday & Thursday from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. $3.00 per class or $5 per week.
